About
NorthType is a small, design-forward software studio.
We make local-first, privacy-respecting utilities for people who work with networks, protocols, and text — the kind of tools you keep in your menu bar and forget you're paying attention to, until the moment you need them.
The connective idea across everything we build is information firewalling: your data stays yours, and nothing leaves your machine by default. It's a principle we hold quietly, in how the software is built, rather than a slogan.
We care about typography, correctness, and restraint — software as a well-made instrument. The studio takes its name and its house mark, the section sign (§), from the apparatus of carefully-set documents: specs, standards, the numbered and cross-referenced world.
NorthType is just getting started. The blog is where we think out loud while we build.
